  • 3 year license recertification.  Michigan EMS providers must accrue Michigan approved continuing education credits equivalent to their level of licensure in order to qualify for license renewal. Records of all continuing education courses must be retained for one year after the expiration of your license.

  • Paramedics are required to obtain a minimum of 45 continuing education credits across a variety of EMS categories.  See MDHHS Paramedic CE Categories.

  • CPR Certification - A Copy of current CPR certification meeting BLS standards for a professional provider, as set forth by the American Heart Association (AHA) is required. Acceptable CPR cards are as follows: AAOS/ESCI, American Heart Association, American Red Cross, and ASHI.  Additionally, ANY CPR certification that is done completely online WILL NOT be acceptable.  One practical CE credit and 1 lecture CE credit will be awarded in the Medical Category for proof of certification.

*Special Considerations category: All levels must have specific Pediatric CEs, as identified in the above chart.  Other Special Consideration credits may include Geriatrics, Special Needs, or Assessment Based Patient Management.

*Operations category: All levels must have a minimum of 1 Emergency Preparedness credit.

*Individual choice:  After the minimum credits are obtained in each category, the remainder of credits may be in any of the listed categories the provider chooses.

Approved practical credits must be identified on the credit certificate (or chit).
